Securo’s Health & Safety Fun Quiz

To assist you start 2010 on a safe note, we have created a Health & Safety quiz that will test your knowledge on workplace Health & Safety. Start the quiz here. Let us know at Securo how you got on by contacting us.

1) ACC Levy changes & ACC Discount Programmes

In December 2009, ACC Minister Nick Smith announced the new levy rates for 2010/11. The new ACC levy rates are to take effect on 1 April 2010 and they show an increase across different industries. More than ever it is crucial for businesses to cut costs, this is where Securo can assist. Securo Safety Consultants can help businesses all over New Zealand to achieve a discount to their ACC Levies by successfully passing a Workplace Safety Management Practices (WSMP) or Workplace Safety Discount (WSD) depending on the size of the business.

Please contact your Safety consultant to discuss how they can help you reduce your ACC levy premiums.

Workplace Safety Management Practices (WSMP) Working for Securo Clients

Our Securo Safety Consultants have been successful in taking a wide range of companies to audit, to qualify for the ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices (WSMP) discount. By successfully achieving a WSMP audit companies can achieve up to a 20% discount off their ACC levies.

The ACC WSMP is aimed at medium and large employers; the ACC Workplace Safety Management Practices programme rewards employers who build safer workplaces. In exchange for putting in place systems and processes that promote injury prevention, the programme gives employers discounts on their standard ACC Workplace Cover levies.

ACC will base your discount on an independent audit of your workplace safety systems and procedures.

Discounts apply for 24 months, starting from the first day of the month after a successful audit. For more information contact either your Safety Consultant or Securo head office on 0800 55 33 44.

Workplace Safety Discount Scheme (WSD) Working for
Secur
o Clients

Our nationwide Safety Consultants have helped small businesses around New Zealand to achieve the 10% discount to their ACC Levies by successfully passing a WSD audit.
It has been great to see our Safety Consultants embrace the WSD scheme and to see the financial benefit to our clients but we here at Securo would like to see as many of our clients as possible apply for it!
To qualify for a WSD your business must have either 10 or less full time employees or an annual payroll of $450,000 or less. Your business must also fall into one of the selected industry sectors and fall within the classified unit numbers currently available from ACC.

There are currently 6 different categories eligible for WSD discounts;

The 10% discount on your ACC levy applies for 3 years. If you believe your company qualifies for the scheme your Safety Consultant will be able to confirm it and will advise you have the necessary health and safety practices in place. If you are not ready they will assist you to reach the standard and help you complete the WSD self-assessment booklet. For more information contact either your Safety Consultant or Securo head office on 0800 55 33 44.

3) Important for Dairy Farmers

Before Christmas a North Island farm worker suffered a horrible death when the multi drum effluent pontoon he was working on overturned trapping him underneath.

Please ensure that any employee who has to walk out on your pontoon for any reason has another person with them to assist if anything goes wrong.

Be prepared for an emergency - consider a life buoy to be kept close at hand, or a rope than can be attached or thrown to the victim so that they can be assisted to safety.

Never allow an employee to work alone on a pontoon - ALWAYS HAVE ANOTHER PERSON WITH YOU

Please discuss this at your next Health and Safety meeting. For further discussion please contact your Safety consultant.
